2.2 Setting User Preferences
Before you import any photos or start building any
pages, go to ShutterBug Preferences from the
Main Menu. The Preferences pane contains a few
options you should set before getting started with
your pages.
Please see the last section on this page for more
information on changes to ShutterBug Preferences
including image processing options and the serial
number box.

ShutterBug Preferences
There are five options for you to specify under ShutterBug Preferences:
1. Check for updates when product is launched
Check this box to have ShutterBug automatically notify you when an update is
available.
2. Automatically launch external browser when done uploading
This option is specific to .Mac accounts only. If you plan to export your site to a .Mac
account, checking this box will make your default browser automatically open at the
URL for viewing your site, after the upload is complete. This option provides added
convenience as the URLs for exporting to .Mac accounts are not the same as the
URLs for viewing.
3. Import Captions from iPhoto Library using:
ShutterBug can import the titles or comments from your iPhoto library, or import both.
When your photos are imported into ShutterBug, the titles and/or comments will be
automatically imported along with the photos. Select the Title Only option to have
ShutterBug import iPhoto titles as the caption; select the Comments option to have
ShutterBug import your iPhoto comments as the caption; select Both to import both the
titles and comments as the photo caption. Any photo or folder of photos not in your
iPhoto library will import the filename as the caption. All captions are editable from
within ShutterBug and can be added to, or deleted.
4. Enable Right to Left Text for languages such as Arabic, Hebrew
This feature was added for users who require right to left text handling on their web
sites. Check this box to make the text automatically flow from right to left on the page.
Note: Right to left text handling is not supported by OS X 10.3. You must upgrade to
10.4 in order to utilize this feature.
5. Enable Before/After Slideshows
If you would like to have the option of creating a Before/After Slideshow for any of your
pages, check this box. This will enable the Before/After slideshow options and features,
located under the Slideshow tab in Layout mode. This feature has been implemented
upon request from users who have a specific need for a Before/After display. If you are
not already acquainted with this feature, please read the documentation in this manual
located here, and consult the documentation located at our support boards, before
activating and using the Before/After Slideshow.
Note: The user interface for the Before/After feature is Beta only - the placement on
the UI and implementation are a work in progress. However the feature itself has been
fully tested, is stable and works properly across all modern browsers on multiple
platforms.
When you are finished setting your user specific options, click the OK button to close
the Preferences pane.

Changes Made to ShutterBug Preferences
If you have recently updated from an older version prior to V2.3 - 2.4.5, you will notice
some changes in the ShutterBug User Preferences:
Interface Changes - the former tabs which spilt preferences into General and Photo
Album options have been removed, and is now condensed into a non-tabbed interface
containing five options, as listed above in the previous section of this page.
Image Processing Changes - The image processing box previously located in User
Preferences has been removed. ShutterBug will now automatically resize and optimize
your photos for the web, upon import. New filter options are available from the
ImageWell edit window. Please see this post at our discussion boards to learn more
about this change.
Serial Number - The serial number box has been removed from ShutterBug
Preferences and replaced with an Activation box. If you are still in Demo mode, you will
see an activation box in which to input your serial number upon launching ShutterBug
or select Activate ShutterBug from the ShutterBug main menu. You will not need to
enter it again.
If you are a registered user already and update to the latest version, you will not need
to enter your number again (if the Activate ShutterBug item under the ShutterBug main
menu is greyed out, it means your copy is activated already with your valid serial
number).
